Site News

Hey all my lovely readers~ ^_^
Just a heads up that I will be on a translation hiatus while I am on vacation until the end of the month~ 🙂

I’ll still try to update the top charts and new releases on the facebook page~
And all free-standing requests will be completed when I return~ Thanks for being patient!

Hello all! It’s been a while since I’ve made a formal news update for the site. 🙂
But I just wanted to comment on a few things~

First, as some of you may or may not have noticed, I’m (slowly) redoing the Artist Index page! Now that Deungdutjai has so many translations, I realize it’s not very easy, convenient, or fun to have to scroll through pages and pages of full translations by an artist looking for a song you want or to make sure it hasn’t already been translated, and as a result, it seems like a lot of duplicate requests are popping up in the request page, so. To make it easier, now, if you click on an artist’s name (For example, Buddha Bless), it will take you to a page with a list of links of all translated songs by them. I decided to organize them in English alphabetical order by their Thai pronunciation…if that makes any sense at all. ^^;; I have to do this by hand, so I’m only to the E’s so far, and if the artist only has one translated song I didn’t bother making a whole separate page for them for the sake of unnecessary effort and server space, but hopefully this will make searching by artist easier and eliminate the annoying need for scroll-scroll-scroll~ 🙂

Though don’t forget, if you know the Thai title of the song, even if you don’t know the artist, you can put it in the search box on the right and it will search the site for you! 😀

Also, I’m working on more artist bios for the artist spotlights and album reviews, and I do plan to bring back the Thai word of the day on the Facebook page as well as update more with music news and gossip! I apologize things have sort of slacked; working two jobs with constantly changing schedules and both of them repeatedly asking for more and more from me is getting exhausting, I can’t wait till I only have one job to worry about!!

Though that being said, starting next week, things are going to get very very busy for me between birthday vacation, visiting family for the holidays, and packing up and relocating for a new job in February. So forgive me if things slow down a bit, I promise I’ll still try and do as much as I can whenever I can, and once I’m all set in my new place with my single, full-time job, updates will regulate again! 🙂

Thank you again, everyone, for all your continued support and patience! <3 <3 <3
And let me know if you have any other comments or suggestions for me~

Hey guys, first I must say thanks again for all your love and support! It really means a lot! ^_^
This site has really grown in popularity a lot since I started it, and I’m very grateful to you all for it~ ♥♥♥

Though with the growth also comes a growth in the amount of translation requests I receive, and since recently I’ve been getting a lot of requests with 10-20+ songs/videos at once, I think it’s time to put a cap on the amount of requests at one time. It’s just really exhausting remembering who wanted what so I can send out E-mails when it’s done, and it creates more work for me as I try to space out large requests to keep things fair for readers who only want one translation so they’re not waiting in line behind a bunch of people who want, like, 5 complete albums. Also having comments with long lists of embedded Youtube videos makes the page load really slow, and I’ve had people complaining that it’s hard for them to access it and post their own requests because of it.

So, everyone, with the reopening of the request page, please be aware that now I would like to impose a 5 song limit on open requests. 🙂 This does not refer to total requests; feel free to come back and request more after I finish your previous ones, just please no more than 5 at a time. I feel kind of bad about it, but I hope you guys can understand, and I hope this doesn’t upset anyone~ >_<

Also, please remember that all requests must be made on the request page! I've been getting a lot of people E-mailing me or messaging me on Facebook lately, and as unorganized as my entire life is, there's no way I can keep track of all that haha ^_^;;

Thank you so much! I love you all!

Hey, guys!

Slowly but surely, things are coming together~
The Facebook fan page is finally open! Link in the side-bar to the right →
If you use Facebook at all, be sure to follow for more Thai music goodness~
There’s not a whole lot there yet, but. xD It’s coming!

On the Facebook page, I plan to include updates on added translations and other things to the blog, a Thai Word of the Day for those of you interested in learning some Thai and expanding your vocabulary, news on new album and music video releases, minor updates from record labels and artists, as well as other communal discussions and games.

Meanwhile, Deungdutjai.com will continue to have all lyric translations, as well as added artist bios/spotlights, major news from artists and record labels, and album or maybe chart reviews.

Don’t worry, my main focus will still be song translations so everyone can understand and sing along with the songs they love~ 🙂 But considering there’s such a lack of English resources for news on Thai music and artists, I want to give you guys as much as I can! 🙂

Slowly but surely!
Thanks everyone for bearing with me! 🙂

Has anyone else been experiencing downtime or errors on Deungdutjai lately? Or is it just me? I’m not really sure what’s going on, I hope it’s either just my internet on my end, WordPress updating and maintenance, or a glitch with the WordAd programming (as it’s still pretty new) and they’re not limiting my bandwidth because Deungdutjai’s getting too big or anything.

Speaking of which, I also apologize for the ads. u_u WordPress needed to start putting ads on random pages to help cover the cost of the site, so I could either pay to have no ads, or agree to have ads more often and get paid for it. Since the death of my computer was an unexpected expense I wasn’t prepared for, I can’t afford to move to my own host right now like I planned. 🙁 So I decided to temporarily go with the ads and see if it can’t help me achieve my goal of my own host any faster. I really hate the ads as much as I’m sure you guys do. ._. But please bear with them for the rest of the month, and I’ll see how much I make from them and decide if it’s worth keeping any longer.

On a more positive note, I finally ordered my new computer! It’s being shipped now, so soon I won’t have to keep annexing my boyfriend’s computer, and soon I’ll have my graphics editing programs back, so I can finish the layout and publicize the Facebook page, then more updating! 😀

As far as site updates are going, if you haven’t noticed already, I’ve moved the artist directory from the sidebar to its own separate page which you can access up on the top bar. This frees up the categories for different things like artist bios/spotlights, news, and album reviews. 😉
I did have to code the entire artist index by hand, though, so you guys can help out by letting me know if a link is broken or I forgot to add an artist or anything like that. Similarly, if any of the translation posts have any misspellings, or if the Youtube link is broken or a better one is available, please comment and let me know~ 🙂

Lastly, I’d like to bring attention to the search bar to the right as well. Here you can search the entire blog for something. This is handy if the artist of a song is in Thai and you can’t read it to look them up in the artist index, or as a faster way to see if I’ve translated a song you’re looking for; simply put the song title in (Thai letters works best, as does using quotes around it) and if I’ve done it, it should show up~ Using this can cut down on people requesting songs that have already been translated, and that way you guys won’t have to wait for me to reply directing you to the previously finished song. 🙂

…I think that’s it for now haha
Thank you all for being patient and bearing with things~ <3

Happy New Years to all my lovely readers!
I hope 2013 treats you all well with good health, fortune, and happiness!!

I apologize things have rather slowed here. As you may or may have not noticed my note at the top of the request page, my trusty computer has finally passed away on me after 7 good years. RIP 🙁 Never fear, though, as I can still steal my boyfriend’s computer in the mean time to continue updating (albeit slower than usual) until I can afford to get a new computer, so Deungdutjai will still go on! 🙂 Though now I can’t yet afford my own hosting like I planned, you can notice Deungdutjai now has its own .com address! And a new layout (minus the banner and logo since that died with my harddrive, but will come soon)! And soon a facebook fanpage! So we’re slowly growing~

Though I’m still a little hesitant of biting off more than I can chew, I’ve also been toying with the idea of expansion beyond just lyric translations and think I’m going to go ahead and have a section for Thai music news, including things like new releases, concerts, rumors, and scandals, as well as a section for album reviews, in case anyone wants an opinion or in-depth look before buying a CD. 🙂 What do you guys think?

And, of course, I’m always open to feedback and suggestions!

Cheers and happy new year!

Hey all my lovely readers~ ^^
Just a heads up that I’m leaving for Thailand today and will be there till the end of the month, and since I’ll probably have very little time and/or desire to translate while I’m there, I’m gonna go ahead and declare a brief hiatus during my vacation. So I apologize for the delay, all free-standing requests will still be gotten to! It’ll just take a little longer.

I’m still working on revamping the blog! I haven’t forgotten! I was hoping to have it done before I left for Thailand, but..it’s a slow process and life got in the way haha… xD So. Soon! Yes.

I’m tentatively going to leave my request page open, for now, just to see what I might be able to get to, and to let my lovely readers continue leaving requests if they don’t mind the wait~ 🙂 The only thing I ask is that (especially those of you with multiple free-standing requests), please don’t come back every day and post 10 more requests each day of my vacation TT-TT;; hahaha. I will close the page if I feel like I’ll be too overwhelmed when I get back.

Thanks again for all your love and support!! Everyone who has left such nice comments that I haven’t been able to reply to yet, know I do still read every one of them and I do appreciate everything!! ♥ I look forward to making this blog bigger and better for you all~ 😀

Just a couple of announcements:

First, it looks like GMM Grammy has decided to cancel its decision to pull all of their videos off Youtube? I haven’t heard any official statement about it, but it was funny because at first they were uploading them privately, then using the private link to link to it on Gmember in their own embedded player, however they were removing the Youtube logo, overwriting the player code, and overwriting Youtube’s advertisements with their own, which was a breach of Youtube’s TOS since they were basically stealing youtube’s bandwidth. When they were caught by fans, they quickly restored the Youtube logo and stopped overwriting the advertisements, but now they seem to have given up and made all the videos public again on Youtube and have returned to uploading?
So I guess all the fans boycotting did some good? 🙂 Maybe they realized they were only stunting themselves from the international market?
Regardless the reason, I’m just happy to see they have decided to continue uploading their music videos on a stable, international website for fans all over the world to enjoy~

SECONDLY,

Deungdutjai has reached it’s 1,000th song translation!! 😀

I want to thank all of you for all your requests, comments, support, and 460,000+ page views~
It all means a lot to me, and you give me the inspiration to keep this site alive! 🙂

Since this site has grown a lot since I first started it, I’m considering what else I can do to continue expanding it.
A new layout is in order, for sure, I was even thinking of investing in my own host and domain name.
I was also thinking about creating a Facebook page for Deungdutjai, just to have a more communal place and stimulate more discussion where you guys can post your thoughts and reviews about songs, music videos, albums, and meet other Thai music fans. There I can also update with new release news, upcoming artists, disbanding groups, record label news, concerts, etc. Maybe even have a Thai word of the day for those interested in learning Thai or expanding their vocabulary. We’ll see what my spare time allows, and I’ll keep you all updated!

I just want to end this post with a big

THANK YOU!!!

to all my lovely readers and supporters!
Stay tuned for more updates and translations! 🙂

Edit: To make it clear how far this goes, I’ve also hear that Grammy has also stated they won’t even allow people to COVER their songs. That means no aspiring singers can show off their voices to Grammy songs they like, no musicians can make piano, ukulele, or guitar covers, nothing. They do not want full versions of their songs available online because they feel it is too easy to record/rip the audio from streaming sites and fear people will do that instead of buying the albums or mp3s.

Here is an English article from Bangkok Post about the situation: http://www.bangkokpost.com/business/economics/306947/gmm-grammy-gets-tough-with-youtube

I guess Grammy would get more revenue from ads if they used their own site rather than Youtube, especially if they’re still talking out details, so I guess I can understand Grammy’s frustration from that if they don’t have a deal worked out so they would get paid ad revenue from Youtube, but is this really the right way to go? Moving all their songs and videos to a website only in Thai that very few people check regularly? The nice thing about Youtube is that it’s an international site in many languages with users all over the world that makes it easy for people everywhere to discover new music. I’m not sure if they’ll be able to get that broad reach with their own, limited site… What do you guys think?

I also have no idea if it’s true, but I’ve been hearing rumors that Grammy was considering charging a subscription fee to be able to view the full videos and media on their site. What do you think? Would you guys pay for the access? Or is that being too greedy? Continue Reading

สวัสดีปีใหม่ไทย ทุกๆคนค่ะ!

Today is the Thai new year, so happy new year, Thai music fans!

In the Buddhist calendar, it’s the year 2555. In Thai, the number 5 is pronounced “ha,” so I hope this year brings everyone lots of laughter and joy like it’s number suggests! 😀
