Title: Visa For Love
Artist: Venus Flytrap
Album: Visa For Love
Year: 2006
Visa extension for two years
If you want to stay, if you want to stay with me
If you want to stay with me
(*) Your visa application is pending (prove it to me)
If you’re still good for a long time (if you want to have me by your side)
Visa extension for two years (If you prove alright)
If you wanna stay(Oh you won’t be alone)
(**) Visa for love, if you prove all right, that’s all
Visa for love
It depends on you, if you’re good to me
It depends on you, if you’re good to me
Stop, it’s only you, if you stay or go, it’s up to you
If you take good care of me, I’ll extend your visa for you
If your love is real and you mean to make my life secure
For all your troubles, only I can be your cure
(*,**)
Speak with me first, then request after
Speak with me first, then request after
Speak with me first, then request after
Speak with me first, then request after
Speak with me first, then request after
Speak with me first, then request after
Speak with me first, then request after
(*,**)
It depends on you, if you’re good to me
It depends on you, if you’re good to me
Hahaha, ohh, Venus Flytrap, Sony’s transgender group that fell flat on its face after just one single. Also the group Bell Nuntida auditioned for when she was starting out. I know the lyrics are probably a cute and unique attempt to spin having a long relationship into the idea of “renewing a visa,” but since Thailand has a problem with people looking to marry just to stay in the country, this song turns so awkwardly stereotypical sex-tourism-y. Also, having a transgender group with the name “trap” in the title just seems so…come on. And a bit mocking to transpeople just trying to live a normal life. And am I remembering correctly that the group broke up after a scandal that one of them turned out to be a biological female? xD

it’s a TRAP!!!
This is an interesting song, and I like how the lyrics use the idea of a visa in the context of love and staying together. It also reminded me that when people actually apply for visas or travel documents, they may need supporting documents such as a police clearance certificate depending on the country and visa type. It’s a good reminder that the meaning of “visa” can be very different in everyday language versus real travel documentation.
